A jury is a group of 12 people who participate in court cases as a civic responsibility. Each year, more than 157,000 people are randomly selected from our community who come from different cultural backgrounds, gender, religions, education levels and ages.
As a juror you are responsible for deciding on whether an offender is guilty or not guilty as charged.
Employers are required, by law, to release their employees for jury duty. However, should the business suffer any undue hardship, then an application to be excused may be lodged.

Jury service is a vital component of civic participation in our democracy. For many people, this is the most direct contact they will have with this important community function.
To be excused from jury duty, a claim must be submitted on a statutory declaration form and must be lodged with the Sheriff's Office or the relevant summonsing court.
An attendance fee and return public transport fees are paid automatically at the completion of your jury service.
